The New York Knicks trade Renaldo Balkman to the Nuggets

The Knicks have traded forward Renaldo Balkman and cash to the Nuggets for Taurean Green, Bobby Jones and a future 2nd round pick. This trade with save the Knicks 1.32 million bucks on the salary cap but it just doesn’t make too much sense. Balkman played in 133 games (1 start) in his career with the Knicks and he averaged 15.2 minutes, 4.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. The Knicks can’t afford to give away talented players without getting any in return and that’s just what they did with this move.

Rumors persist that the Knicks are going to cut both Green & Jones before they ever step on the court with them. 21-year old point guard Taurean Green was a rookie last season and he played in 17 games (0 starts) for the Blazers & Nuggets last season and he averaged 4.4 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He didn’t show much for either team last season. Bobby Jones is a small forward who played for five teams last season (Grizzlies, Heat, Rockets, Nuggets and Spurs). Jones played in 47 games (2 starts) for his five teams last season and he averaged 11.3 minutes, 3.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Jones has now played in 91 games (7 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 3.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

The Knicks save $1.32 million bucks and get a 2nd round pick for Balkman and that’s just not smart.

The New York Knicks sign guard Anthony Roberson

The Knicks have signed guard Anthony Roberson to a 2-year contract. Roberson last played in the NBA in 2006-07 with the Golden State Warriors. He has played in 36 games (1 start) in his NBA career and he has averaged 8.8 minutes, 4.1 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He will likely be a backup at shooting guard this season for the Knicks but he probably won’t play a whole lot.

The New York Knicks reportedly sign point guard Chris Duhon

The Knicks have reportedly signed free agent point guard Chris Duhon to a 2-year, $12 million dollar contract. I have to wonder if the Knicks are smoking something in the front office as Duhon has never been good enough to hold a starting job in the NBA. It appears as if the Knicks will likely try to get rid of Stephon Marbury and make Duhon the starter at point guard and that is a recipe for disaster. Duhon played in 66 games (18 starts) with the Bulls last season and he averaged 22.6 minutes, 5.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Duhon has now played in 300 games (159 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 25.8 minutes, 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. But, Duhon is not a good shooter as he has only hit 38.7% of his field goal attempts in his NBA career. This was another poor move for the Knicks if they are planning on starting Duhon.
